I had always had a negative opinion of assisted living facilities because of horror stories I had heard on the news. My first visit to Sunrise, I was delighted by the elegance and decor in the lobby.
They had card nights, activities at dinnertime, and workshops for men where they work in a garage. Overall, I'm very happy my husband has a place there. Sunrise of Silver Spring was very nice, well cared for, and had a lot of activities. The staff was nice, but they require a 14-day minimum stay, and I only needed five or six days. It was modern and had a nice dining room. The rooms were nice - one type was like an apartment and the other one was just a bath and a bedroom.
It was like in a quiet residential area at the end of the street, had a lot of trees, which looked like a park, and it’s very nice and very modest inside. It was not fancy, but they have a low staff-patient ratio, which was good. The administrator we talked to seemed to be very caring, personable and was so easy to approach.
